Valerian – Valeriana officinalis L, belongs to the Valerianaceae family, it is one of four most frequently cultivated medicinal plants in Poland. Underground parts of the plant – valerian root – Valerianae radix – constitute a herbal raw material. It contains essential oil, sesquiterpene acids, including valerenic acid, and tannins. The root of valerian has a long history and many proofs of efficiency of actions – it has established medical use status in terms of reducing mild nervous stress conditions and sleep disorders.

Function

1. Valerian is most commonly used for sleep disorders, especially the inability to sleep (insomnia). It is frequently combined with hops, lemon balm, or other herbs that also cause drowsiness.
