The cosmetic effect of Vitamin B3 niacinamide

September 07, 2021

Niacinamide is widely found in animal meat, liver, kidney, peanuts, rice bran and yeast materials. It is a vitamin substance, also known as vitamin b3. It is made by synthetic method. Niacin can be converted to niacinamide in vivo. Although both of these compounds have vitamin effects, niacinamide is less pharmacological and toxic than niacin. These effects are produced during the conversion of niacin. Therefore, niacinamide will not reduce cholesterol or cause flushing like niacin. In addition to many foods that naturally contain niacinamide, some topical ointments and beauty products also contain niacinamide.

Vitamin B3

The advantages of niacinamide

  1. High purity, up to 99.9% or more
  2. Easily soluble in water, ethanol and glycerin, etc.
  3. Normally stable
  4. It can be used in conjunction with a variety of whitening agents, such as α-arbutin, kojic acid DP and glutathione and other cosmetic raw materials, and has a synergistic effect.
  Precautions:
When the concentration of niacinamide exceeds 5%, it is not easily absorbed by the skin; when it is lower than 5%, the skin care effect will be eased. Therefore, the product should be appropriately added within the dosage range.
The pH value of nicotinamide should be controlled at 5-7. If the pH is lower than 5, it may be decomposed into niacin, which is irritating to the skin.

Three principles of niacinamide whitening

1. Act on the melanin that has been produced and reduce its transfer to surface cells
2. Speed up the metabolism and promote the shedding of melanin-containing keratinocytes
3. Promote the synthesis of epidermal protein and improve skin texture

Recommended cosmetic applications

Nicotinamide is a component of Coenzyme I and Coenzyme II, and participates in lipid metabolism in the body, the oxidation process of tissue respiration, and the process of anaerobic decomposition of carbohydrates. Niacinamide can be used as a hair growth agent, moisturizer and nutrient. Clinical controlled studies have also shown that long-term topical niacinamide for aging skin can improve skin functions, such as repairing the skin barrier, reducing the appearance of facial photoaging symptoms (skin texture, pigment spots, irritation, redness, scars) and reducing oil production. With the increasingly close penetration and integration of cosmetic science and medicine, as well as the strong development of cosmetic science itself, the application fields of nicotinamide have been gradually expanded. According to domestic and foreign research results and related data reports, the application of niacinamide in cosmetics has been applied to whitening products, Moisturizing and wrinkle removing products, acne products, shampoos, hair conditioners and other products.

Application product type: facial mask, lotion, facial cleanser, toothpaste, cream, etc.
