Silymarin is a flavonoid lignan compound extracted from the seed coat of Silybum marianum seeds. It is a yellow or brown powder with a bitter taste. Easily soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol, hardly soluble in chloroform, and insoluble in water.
